Animal ID: 35566Spunky (female)

Belgian Sheepdog Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Spunky is an inquisitive girl who was very curious about her surroundings. She loves coming out of her kennel to be with people and is not shy in the least. This beautiful girl has the softest fur and is good natured. She walks well on a leash and is learning to sit. If you're looking for a fun puppy, Spunky might be the dog for you!

Animal ID: 35572Krystal (female)

Black and Tan Coonhound Mix    Age: Puppy

I learned today that Lady's real name is Krystal and she is fully vetted. She wasn't as shy with me today as she was the first time I met her, but she's still just as sweet as she can be. Her pen mate, Dottie, goes to her new home on Monday, and I know Krystal will miss her. Please come meet Krystal, today. She is a wonderful dog and would love a new home, too!

Animal ID: 35537Buster (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

You talk about a poster dog for Pit Bulls well here he is. Buster is still a little shy and is often overlooked because he is so quiet in his kennel. He sits there quietly waiting for someone to walk him. He is very polite while you put the leash on him. He has a tendency to pull a little on the leash but if you correct him he walks like the gentleman he is. Buster is not bothered by the other dogs and the noises at animal control. I am not sure I have ever heard him bark and I have walked him many times. He is quite intrigued by Dominic, the donkey that is visiting at animal control. Today I watched as Buster was getting a bath in the ... (Read More)outside doggie bathtub. I was amazed how he just stood there very politely for his bath. In fact he was so at ease that he just lay down in the tub. I wish I could bring my dog to animal control to get some bath lessons from Buster. Buster is a sweetheart who loves people and appreciates any attention that is given to him. If you think Buster might work for you hurry to animal control to see and visit with him. His hold period is over and he has no applications. Animal control is closed on Wednesday. However if you are interested in Buster it would be advisable to call (706-613-3540) tomorrow (Wednesday) around 8 o'clock and ask about Buster. (Less)

Animal ID: 35434Taz (female)

Dutch Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

35434 Taz is a 2 to 3 month old pup. When you call animal control or fill out an application these numbers are very important. The staff does not go by names but ledger numbers (listed here). All three are coming out of rabies quarantine on Wednesday morning, April 10, 2012. If they do not have an adoption application (for Goliath and Taz) or a rescue commitment for Todd, they will be put to sleep. About a week ago, animal control was deluged with well meaning volunteers. The shelter was not meant to hold 30 eager volunteers. To be perfectly blunt, only 10 volunteers at a time should be out with the dogs. Volunteers should be taking ... (Read More)turns. The dogs love all the attention and exercise but often, too much stimulation and lack of experience result in nips and bites. That is why these three dogs ended up in solitary for 10 days. Little Taz was playing when a new volunteer played a bit on the rough side. As a puppy, Taz was not aware of how to behave so she nipped the volunteer. She is keeping herself amused by being silly in her run. I am surprised she did not deteriorate but is still her adorable, lovable and happy little self. Poor choice and lack of education on how to behave with pups and dogs caused this little sweetie to be separated from all the joys she shared with visitors, staff and experienced volunteers. Thanks for your support and concern. Rita You can find an application for adoption or rescue at athenspets.net. Fax it to the shelter at 706 613-3545. You can also see more photos of these and many other dogs at animal control on this site. The weather is going to be great, so drop in and say hi. 35434 Taz is a 2 to 3 month old pup. The dogs love all the attention and exercise but often, too much stimulation and lack of experience result in nips and bites. That is why these three dogs ended up in solitary for 10 days. Todd is a young , intact, strong blue pit bull who is very affectionate with people and needs to learn manners with all dogs not just some. Todd also must be trained to walk politely on leash without pulling. He loves to give kisses, enjoys belly rubs and is normally a very happy boy. With too much excitement and not enough attention, he bolted from the volunteer and grabbed Goliath the Mastiff. Neither was critically injured but it is GA law to confine a dog if he bit or is bitten by another dog. Todd was depressed the first few days of his confinement. He just hung his head low while other dogs were having fun and he was cooped up in a run without human interaction (which he loves).Today, he seemed to be his old self-wagging his tail and smiling. He has no idea that if not rescued, he will be put to sleep on Wednesday. Goliath is very laid back. He is a large dog and is all love. He can walk on leash without pulling and just loves to be with people and other dogs. He is so confused right now because since impound and before quarantine, he was out and around visiting other dogs and playing with the volunteers. Since he was the dog that Todd targetted, he too must wait 10 days before release into the general population of dogs at animal control. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time. By the way, he adores children and is very very gentle with them. He is eager to please and is more of a couch potato than athlete.     She is only 34 pounds, and was most likely used for breeding, bait, and was severely abused. However, when approached, all she wants to do is give kisses and be loved! This sweet girl is going to need veterinary care for her wounds and neglect. PLEASE HELP THIS GIRL! She deserves it!

Animal ID: 35221Trusty (male)

Black and Tan Coonhound    Age: Adult

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament

Old Trusty is quite the big boy. He is true to his breed and kept his nose to the ground for most of our visit. The pictures don't do him justice - he is a stunning boy and you could possibly seek shelter from the rain under his gigantic floppy ears!! He is very good with people and other dogs. I would safely say that he wouldn't be too good with roosters. He was doing beautifully on his leash until the rooster at animal control decided to make a fuss. Once he was fixated on the rooster our photo session was over. Probably not the best dog to have around birds. I did notice that he 'pointed' the rooster out. He may have been trained ... Animal ID: 35242Sugar (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Needs Vaccinations

She just came in yesterday; the person who brought her in saw her as a stray a couple of times. She's had a rough time - her head is head pretty cut up and super-thin, but she could not be friendlier! The staff say she's doing great: she was dehydrated when she came in, and that's getting better, and she's realized that being at Animal Control means regular access to food and water. They're feeding her puppy chow, wet, as much as she wants. She is social and very dear. She loves people and other dogs. Loves being held, just relaxes right against me. She wants to be with people. She let us cut her nails. A couple of times she was off ... (Read More)leash (my mistake) and she wasn't going anywhere where I wasn't. A real sweetie! (Less)
